Fantasy vs Firmament
[White metal beams | Empty frames]
Someone’s stepped out for a moment,
left the keys just past the outer gate.
[In Someone’s absence | The planters trade places]
A ballroom floor formed of shadows cast;
The sun shines through bowed glass.
[Someone new arrives | Leaves footprints in the dust]
The silence has long since run out of leaves
to play you love me, you love me not.
[They turn to look now | To be seen]
A chorus of crystals. A chandelier
of champagne flutes, poised. Expectant.
[To spill their secrets | Poison laced? Perhaps]
There are too many stray letters,
no form. No footsteps in the grime.
[A world of green | Of nowhere wires]
No words left behind from the Someones.
Nor warm wash of time.
[Is this a dream | Is this a lie?]
