Did You Know Canberra’s Dendy Cinema Has a New Menu?

By Maddy Piggott

Between the current state of the world and the frantic end of semester, life has been pretty rough for UC students recently. But now we’re finally in the calm (for most of us at least) and it’s time to properly relax. Admittedly, options are still limited with how miserable it is outside, and I think most of us are sick and tired of staying at home. So, I have another option for you to consider.

Dendy Cinema have recently fully upgraded their premium lounge. What does this mean? Well now you can go the movies without dealing with the main waiting area, loud children, or crowds. Instead, you can watch a new release in a quiet cinema with food and a selection of alcohol. Admittedly, it’s more expensive than your standard movie ticket. But it’s a great option if you really feel like treating yourself or have a special occasion you want to celebrate!

Last month Curieux was invited to the launch of Dendy’s new menu where we got to try a selection of their new food and experience it in the refurbished premium lounge. We were greeted with live music and a full charcuterie board, along with a selection of their appetisers to try. These included: potato scallops, peking duck spring rolls and bolognese arancini. From here we were led into the screening of the night – Polite Society. Throughout the movie, we were introduced to three courses they had selected. Entre gave us garlic hummus and flatbread. Main was a burger and shoestring fries. Finally, we reached dessert (my personal favourite) a selection of sundaes. Mine was a chocolate churro sundae that I honestly can’t speak highly enough of.

Now don’t get me wrong, the menu is delicious and the night was incredible. But the real highlight of Dendy’s new Premium Lounge is the staff. They moved silently and managed to manoeuvre themselves in a way that despite continuously serving food and drinks, they never once blocked the screen or interrupted the viewing.

Curieux recommends trying out the new Premium Lounge if you have something to celebrate. You don’t need to go all out; the appetisers menu and cinema alone is more than enough to enjoy yourself. But if you’re tempted to really go for it, the menu has full experience packages and every food item comes with a wine pairing suggestion. So pick what’s right for you and have yourself a relaxing child-free experience you‘ll be sure to remember!
