SRC Newsletter – March & April 2023 Edition

By UCSRC

Hello and welcome to the April edition of the SRC Newsletter. Here’s a rundown of what the SRC has been up to recently.

Women’s Day Celebration:

The SRC participated in the Women’s Day celebration, and we had a stall where we engaged with attendees and gave out merchandise. We also held a raffle with 56 participants, with 2 lucky winners.

Voice to Parliament Panel:

The Voice to Parliament panel was an opportunity for the SRC to participate in discussions about critical issues affecting Australia. We were given the opportunity to give our opinions and thought on the referendum which will be later this year. Our President acted as one of the moderator of the panel, and our Vice-President and University Council representative provided valuable insights and perspectives as part of the panel.

New Faculty Board Members:

We are currently looking for representatives in several positions working with the SRC. These include the:

Faculty of Arts and Design – Postgraduate,

Facultyof Business Government and Law – Postgraduate,

and Faculty of Education – Undergraduate.

We encourage students who are interested in these positions to reach out to the SRC for more information (UCSRC@Canberra.edu.au)

Town Hall Meeting:

The town hall meeting focused on AI and its impact on education. It provided an opportunity for UC and students to explore the role of AI in shaping the future of education. Nine thought-provoking questions were raised by the students, and ten students actively participated in the live session! In case you missed it, don’t fret, as the recording is still available on the Canvas page. (https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/StudentAdvocacyBookings@canberra.edu.au/bookings/)

New SRC Members:

We are excited to welcome three new members to the SRC. Alexandra Croft will serve as the Faculty of Education representative, Jaimee Waddell will be the Ngunnawal Centre representative, and Patricia Solares Poggi will serve as the Academic Board – Postgraduate representative. We are confident that these new members will bring valuable perspectives and insights to the team and we look forward to working with them more.

New Policies:

We have implemented new policies that address vacant positions on the SRC and the way we fill positions on faculty boards.

Stay Connected:

Staying connected with the SRC is highly recommended for all UC students. This can be achieved by staying updated with the latest issues of Curieux and by following the SRC’s social media. By working together, we can establish a welcoming and inclusive community at UC. If you have any queries or worries, please don’t hesitate to contact your designated representative (firstname.lastname@canberra.edu.au)(Find your representative here: https://www.canberra.edu.au/content/myuc/home/university-life/student-representative-council.html) or the SRC (UCSRC@canberra.edu.au). The SRC is dedicated to serving and advocating for the student population at UC.

All the best,

Jannis Heinzmann

SRC Vice-President
