It’s Time For Stress Less Week

By Phoebe Davies

The first semester of 2021 is coming to an end, and you know what that means, right? It’s time for Stress Less Week, which will give you a nice little break and chance to unwind and destress before the final assessment and examination period begins. UC has got you covered for the whole week, with plenty of activities and distractions to ensure that you’re heading into the final part of the semester with your best foot forward.

All week long you can enjoy a colouring wall in the refectory, an evening coffee fix from 5-7pm outside the library, a shared Spotify playlist that you can add your favourite songs to unwind to, and one free hour at the E Sports lounge which must be used between May 3rd-7th.

But that’s not where the fun stops, so let’s see what the rest of the week has in store!

Monday – May 3rd

Starting the week off with the most important meal of the day, from 10am on the concourse you can grab yourself a bacon and egg breakfast.

You can follow that with some of the week long activities UC has on offer, but when dinnertime rolls around, if you don’t already have plans, then you can enjoy an on campus dinner at 6.30pm in the refectory.

And to wrap the first day of Stress Less Week off, down in the eSports Lounge, starting at 7pm, you can partake in the SAUCE, a 1v1 Super Smash Bros tournament. Registration closes at 7.30, so if you’re wanting to have some fun and unwind, then make sure you’re there. There is a $5 entry fee, but if you bring your own set up (Nintendo Switch, dock, power supply, HDMI cable, and Smash Ultimate with all characters unlocked), then you get free entry.

Tuesday – May 4th

Nothing says distressing quite like some yoga, and if that grabs your attention then you can start your Tuesday off with some yoga, and of course, some coffee.

When lunchtime rolls around make sure you grab yourself a toastie, which will be on offer to keep you fuelled up for another day of distressing.

This is also the first of three days this week that the Food Pantry will be running, so from 11am-1pm you can pop on down.

And there is no better way to wrap up your Tuesday than with some friendly trivia competition down at The Well. You can join in person or online, so however you wish to do so, getting involved in Trivia Tuesdays is a great way to wrap up day 2 of Stress Less Week.

Wednesday – May 5th

Wednesday means you’re halfway through the week, and hopefully feeling significantly less stressed.

This is the day for Market Day, so from 11am-2pm you can swing by the concourse and say hi to some of your favourite clubs and societies, discover some new ones to join, and even grab a copy of Curieux’s latest print edition, Paradoxical.

This is also the day to attend if you want to visit and say hi to the adorable and very helpful therapy dogs from Delta Therapy Dogs.

If you missed out on the Food Pantry on Tuesday, then no stress, because from 4-6pm, if can pop on down and grab what you need.

Thursday – May 6th

Thursday is offering some warmth with soup on offer, so if you’re needing something warm or are just craving some soup now that the temperature is starting to drop, then Thursday is the day for you.

Midday Music will have you covered if you’re wanting some talented tunes to keep you entertained. Head on down to the Concourse Lawns from 12-2pm, to get your music fix and watch some of the talented members of our UC community.

The Food Pantry is running again on Thursday, and it will be your last opportunity for the week. Similarly to Tuesday, head on down from 11am-1pm to grab what you need, and make sure you’re set for the week.

Friday – May 7th

Hopefully you’re feeling properly relaxed and Stress Less Week has worked its magic, because Friday will wrap Stress Less Week up nicely.

As you start to enter study mode again, if you ever left it this week, then study snacks will keep you going to make sure you’re fuelled and ready to take on those study sessions and exams.

And, as semester draws to a close, and if you’re in need for a new read to keep you occupied over winter break, then make sure you come down to the Book Exchange.

And just like that, that’s Stress Less Week for you. You can get a closer look at what this week has in store for you on the UC Life Event Page, and we wish you the best for your Stress Less Week, and for the examination and final assessment period ahead.
