International Womens Day 2019 at UC

By Minh Thu Pham Tran

Last week, the UCSRC, students and university staff gathered and celebrated International Women’s Day in solidarity.

When participating in the event, attendees were encouraged to make personal pledges supporting women and gender equality. Many meaningful and genuine pledges were made.

I pledge to make ‘I will’ into ‘I have’.

Empower the young women in my life #BalanceforBetter

Empower women to speak up without fear.

The event saw great engagement from the UC community, on-site and on social media.

Overall, the event successfully promoted positive awareness of women empowerment.

As our Women’s Officer and the main event coordinator, Christina Starr told Curieux “It’s great that we have female leaders like Amannda and Katherine now. We need more women in leadership roles.”

Being an avid advocate for women advancement and gender equality, Christina is committed to make UC a supportive, respectful and equal community.

Currently, the Women’s Room located on the Bruce campus (Building 1, level B, room 4) is SSAF funded and UCSRC supported facility. It provides a quiet and exclusive space for women and everyone is welcome.
