Chatting with candidates: Faculty of Education SRC

We reached out to all of your candidates to help you get to know the person you’re casting your vote for. While not all candidates got back to us, a few shared their plans for the 2021 SRC.

Anna Wilkey
Summary of intent:
Believes in the importance of student voices and the SRC in education institutions.
Passionate about listening to the feedback and concerns of young people and investing in their wellbeing.
Anna is also interested in hearing the experience of student parents, like herself.
My name is Anna Wilkey. I’m a Master of Secondary Teaching student, a mum currently caring for my active and curious toddler, and a mentor for a wonderful Grade 6 student. So I understand the challenges that come with juggling study around life’s interests. I passionately believe that we need to listen more to our young people and invest in their wellbeing.
Why are you running for the SRC?
I’m running for the SRC as I believe in the importance of the student voice. Fittingly, my secondary teaching areas are humanities, more specifically, history and politics. So, I intimately understand empowerment, advocacy, and representation. I believe that bodies like the SRC are so important in education institutions, and I would love the opportunity to contribute. I also have experience sitting on governance boards and can bring my experience of working in professional settings, as well as my experience of being a postgraduate student to the SRC.
What is your vision and why are you the best candidate for the position?
I hope to add to the impressive work that has already been done. Where I hope to contribute is to be an ear for the feedback and concerns of students in the education faculty, as the Faculty of Education representative on the SRC. As a student parent, I would be interested in hearing the experience of student parents, and their needs, and advocate for the creation of resources that can better support student parents.
Domenic Giampaolo
Summary of intent:
Ensure that the university conducts its business in a way that is best suited to students.
Open to hear the ideas and opinions of his peers.
Ready to advocate for students.
My name is Domenic Giampaolo and I’m one of 6 children in my family. Born and raised in Canberra, I’m currently studying a Bachelor in Early Childhood and Primary Education. I have a strong interest in travel, fitness, and sport, especially soccer and basketball. However, my passion is educating people and helping the next generation grow into intelligent, strong, and open-minded people.
Why you are running for the SRC?
As someone who has previous SRC experience, I feel I could be a positive voice for the students within the Education faculty at UC. I’m not often outspoken, however, I am very open to hearing whatever ideas and opinions my peers have, and will happily fight for what I believe is right. With student representation for the Education Faculty, the SRC can give you the best possible chance to be the best you can be, so you can help others be the best they can be.
What is your vision and why are you the best candidate for the position?
In these extremely difficult times, I want to ensure that the university conducts its business in a way that is best suited to our students. It’s important that the students at UC are advocated for and I believe I am the best person to do this. I will take this role incredibly seriously, now more than ever, it’s important that you are heard.
