Prowess with the pen: when all of this has ended.

By Laura Monaghan

When all of this has ended,

Won’t you come dance in the rain with me?

Please don’t take this life for granted;

Let’s marvel in the simple joy of being free.

Won’t you come dance in the rain with me?

Your fingers press hopeful against the window pane.

Let’s marvel in the simple joy of being free,

Who doesn’t crave the cool kiss of rain?

Your fingers press hopeful against the window pane,

Shivering cold in the absence of body heat.

Who doesn’t crave the cool kiss of rain?

When not a soul’s in sight walking down the street.

Shivering cold in the absence of body heat,

We’re grateful for the miracle it is to feel.

When not a soul’s in sight walking down the street,

In a world full of people desperate to heal.

We’re grateful for the miracle it is to feel,

To wipe away the tears spilt from lonely eyes.

In a world full of people desperate to heal,

It only took a viral pandemic to make us realise.

To wipe away the tears spilt from lonely eyes,

Our hearts no longer fret with looming danger.

It only took a viral pandemic to make us realise,

We yearn for shared experience with a stranger.

Our hearts no longer fret with looming danger.

Into your arms is the first place that I’ll run.

We yearn for shared experience with a stranger,

Let us remember our need for social connection.

Into your arms is the first place that I’ll run.

Please don’t take this life for granted.

Let us remember our need for social connection.

When all of this has ended.
